ANN CLAYTON was a teacher of Commonwealth literature at the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. She was a teacher of literature at universities in Johannnesburg, South Africa, where she also worked as a writer, freelance journalist and book reviewer.
Her critical articles on literature, arts, culture, and politics have appeared in South African, Canadian and international newspapers and journals. She has published several book-length academic titles: Olive Schreiner: A Casebook (McGraw-Hill), Women and Writing in South Africa: A Critical Anthology (Heinemann), Olive Schreiner (Twayne), and Speaking of Writing: Conversations with Canadian Novelists (Vocamus Community Publications). She has also published three previous volumes of poetry: Leaving Home (Red Kite / Snailpress), Eternal Day (Drum Media) and Migration (Vocamus Community Publications).
Since leaving academia, she has worked as a communications consultant for the Federal Government of Canada, working on parliament and policy-making, economic and social justice, women’s equality, and international development.
