Hiba Sadi has three passions in her life: her sweet husband Zaid, her tuxedo cat Kiwi, and good food.
She grew up in a small town in occupied Palestine, 140 km north of Jerusalem, where the finest olive trees in the world grow. While some people hold parties to show off their art collection, where she comes from, people exchange visits at the end of the olive harvest season to taste each other's olive oil and brag about their own. Her family was no exception.
Soon after she moved to Canada, she decided to share her passion for good food with her new community and started a salad business called Olive Haven, which sells dips, with a focus on Hummus made the authentic way (no oil, no citric acid, and absolutely no preservatives). Hiba is not a chef by any sense of the word, but she loves cooking, inventing recipes, and sharing food with people. Her favorite food group is salads, a passion that motivated her to write Palestine in a Bowl, a collection of Palestinian and Palestinian-inspired salads and dips together from recipes that she grew up with, made, and loved.
She holds two bachelor's degrees, one master’s, and is currently completing a PhD, but when asked what she does, she proudly says, "I make Hummus."
